Surgeon General’s Report on Youth Mental Health Crisis
Surgeon’s General Report entitled Protecting Youth Mental Health illustrates significant increases in mental health challenges including the devastating effect of the pandemic on the adolescents and young adults.
The report states that, “Recent research covering 80,000 youth globally found that depressive and anxiety symptoms doubled during the pandemic, with 25% of youth experiencing depressive symptoms and 20% experiencing anxiety symptoms.”
The report also notes that between 2007 and 2018, suicide rates among the youth (10-24 year olds) in the US increased by 57%.
